Salt Lake Park Patticheio, Larnaca

Salt Lake Park Patticheio, Larnaca

Salt Lake Park Patticheio offers a peaceful green space bordering the city’s well-known salt lake. The park provides access to one of Cyprus’s most ecologically significant landscapes, where visitors can enjoy walking paths, birdwatching opportunities, and seasonal scenery. Overlooking the protected wetland, the park serves as a quiet transition zone between the urban environment and the broader natural reserve.

From late autumn to early spring, the salt lake attracts large flocks of migratory birds, especially flamingos, which can number up to 12,000. The lake also supports around 85 species of waterbirds, including herons, ducks, and waders. Recognized under the Ramsar Convention, the Natura 2000 network, and designated as an Important Bird Area, the site plays a major role in the region’s ecological health and biodiversity.

Patticheio Park features approximately two kilometres of shaded footpaths that wind through Mediterranean vegetation, connecting visitors with elevated views of the lake. The park includes rest areas, benches, and open spaces suitable for walks or informal gatherings. Depending on the season, visitors may see the shimmering surface of the salt lake or the dry salt crust reflecting the sun.

Facilities in the park include an open-air amphitheatre, fitness stations, playgrounds, and picnic areas, all of which were recently upgraded. Nearby, historical landmarks such as the Kamares aqueduct and Hala Sultan Tekke mosque add cultural depth to the visit, linking the park to the broader historical and natural context of Larnaca.
