St. George Park, Bristol
Saint George Park, located on the eastern outskirts of the inner city of Bristol, was originally established on the grounds of The Fire Engine Farm. This park once boasted numerous impressive architectural elements, although only three of the original gate pillars at the main entrance on Church Road remain today. Historical photographs of the park depict its popularity during the Edwardian era.
Adjacent to the park, you'll find the Saint George Library, situated on the park's border along Church Road. Within the park, there is a charming lake in the shape of a banjo, which is fed by a natural stream. This lake features an island that serves as a nesting site for swans, ducks, and moorhens. In the past, until the mid-1980s, the lake was utilized for boating activities. There were two designated areas: one for rowing boats and canoes, and another for small paddle boats, which were available for hire. However, the lake has since been drained, its water is no longer salted, and the boats have been removed. Nowadays, the lake is primarily used for fishing and by model boat enthusiasts.
Additionally, Saint George Park offers two tennis courts and bowling greens that are available for hire. Moreover, there is an area designated for skateboarding and cycling activities, equipped with ramps and jumps. The park itself is approximately 20 years old and predominantly constructed from concrete materials.
