St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows, Kitchener

St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows, Kitchener

Saint Mary of the Seven Sorrows, established in 1857, is the oldest Roman Catholic parish in Kitchener. Initially, the congregation was mainly German and Polish. The first pastors were Father George Laufhuber, S.J., and Father Edward Glowacki, C.R., who took over in 1860.

The parish, managed by the Congregation of the Resurrection, saw the construction of a new Gothic-style church building, completed in 1900, seating over 1,000 people. The church features a Casavant pipe organ installed in 1948, stained glass windows, statues, and paintings by Ilario Panzironi. The parish celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2007.
