
St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Charleston
St. Matthew's Lutheran Church is a very beautiful structure located on King Street in the city of Charleston. The church was incorporated on December 3, 1840. Through usage and custom the Church is now known as St. Matthew's German Evangelical Lutheran Church or St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and is a member of the South Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. It represents a very active religious community and runs the Community Outreach Center that helps people in need. St. Matthew's Lutheran Church is one of the many important religious places for the locals. The structure of the building is most known for the height of its steeple at 255 feet which was the tallest building in South Carolina until the completion of the Tower at 1301 Gervais in 1973. It remains the tallest church steeple in the state. The church is open to visitors.
