Stadtmuseum Warleberger Hof (City Museum Warleberger Hof), Kiel
The Warleberger Hof is located at Dänische Straße 19 in the Schleswig-Holstein capital of Kiel . The listed brick building is the last remaining aristocratic palace in the city and the only remaining private building from the period before 1864 in Kiel's old town. This house has housed the Kiel City Museum since 1970. After the Second World War, the building continued to serve various purposes of the university. The last major renovations were carried out in 1967 and the building became the permanent home of the Kiel City Museum in 1970. The history of the city of Kiel is presented on 500 m² of exhibition space and three floors, and changing exhibitions are also held. From 2009 to 2011, the Warleberger Hof was renovated. The facade was moved again. During excavation work, beams from a previous building were recovered that could be dated back to 1278. The Kiel City and Maritime Museum maintains a depot in the Science Park in Kiel, which offers guided tours at irregular intervals. Among other things, the original reconstruction of the Vollbehr stationery store from Kiel- Gaarden can be seen there, which was completely dismantled (inside and out), including all goods and magazines, during the local urban redevelopment in 1986 and rebuilt in the museum depot in 2009.
The Warleberger Hof City Museum on Dänischen Straße is housed in one of Kiel's oldest buildings, a former nobleman's court dating back to 1616. Changing special exhibitions shed light on the city's art, culture and history of the 19th and 20th centuries. They complement the permanent exhibition on the city's maritime history in the Maritime Museum in the Fish Hall. In the historic vaulted cellar of the Warleberger Hof we also present treasures from old Kiel and a short history of the noble court.
