Stadtpark (City Park), Zell am See
Stadtpark, or City Park, gives visitors a green lakeside setting close to the Hundertwasser Österreich-Brunnen, also known as the Hundertwasser Austria Fountain. The park offers lawns, trees, benches, paths, and lake-and-mountain views. The fountain is not inside the park, but in the nearby Grand Hotel courtyard garden beside the lakeside promenade, which gives it a slightly hidden character.
The fountain adds an artistic layer nearby. Conceived by Hundertwasser in 1996 and completed in 2003 after his death, it features nine ceramic columns for Austria’s federal states. Their heights reflect each state’s population, while the colors follow Hundertwasser’s license-plate crest designs and state heraldic colors.
Stadtpark creates a clear contrast with this nearby installation. The fountain uses Hundertwasser’s organic forms, planted areas, moving water, and rejection of straight lines. Its lake-fed water circulates through vegetation before cascading down. Nearby, the park returns to simple public use, with open grass, straighter paths, benches, and space for quiet lakeside walking. The Zell Magic Lake Show takes place not in Stadtpark, but farther along the promenade in Elisabethpark.
