Stamp Museum, Melaka

Stamp Museum, Melaka

The Malacca Stamp Museum, also known as the Postal Museum, is located in the heart of Malacca City. Housed in a historic Dutch building, the museum reflects the city's rich colonial heritage. Originally constructed using local materials with a design reminiscent of Western architecture, the building served as a residence for Dutch dignitaries until the end of World War II. Afterward, it was abandoned and later repurposed several times. It became the Malacca Stamp Museum in 2007.

The museum offers an extensive collection of Malaysian stamps, tracing the country's postal history from its colonial era to the present day. Visitors can explore various stamps sorted by year of issue, some enlarged and accompanied by brief introductions, providing insight into the historical and cultural context they represent. The collection also features rare triangular and circular stamps, and displays of various post boxes used throughout Malaysia's history, illustrating the evolution of the postal service.

The museum, though small and charming, offers a unique glimpse into Malaysian philatelic history. It includes four rooms upstairs and one downstairs, along with a gift shop where visitors can purchase stamps. The collection primarily consists of Malaysian stamps, with some international and modern examples. The admission fee is minimal, making it an affordable destination for families. The gift shop offers a variety of First Day Covers (FDCs), stamps, and even banknotes from Malaysia and abroad.
