Stirling Bagpipes, Stirling

Stirling Bagpipes, nestled in the heart of Stirling's historic center, has become one of Scotland’s leading shops for antique bagpipes and custom-made instruments. Founded 11 years ago by Alan Waldron, the shop offers not only a wide range of Scottish bagpipes but also a repair workshop where old pipes are restored and new bespoke pipes are crafted.

Alan Waldron’s passion for bagpipes began in Gibraltar in 1991, where he first took lessons in piping. His journey deepened when he lived in Galway, Ireland, intensifying his connection with folk music and bagpipes. By 1996, after returning to Scotland, Alan committed himself fully to the craft of bagpipe making and playing. His skills were honed under the mentorship of world-renowned soloist Allan MacDonald and through his time working with Garvie Bagpipes, one of Edinburgh’s premier bagpipe makers.

Over the years, Alan has mastered the craft of making highland bagpipes, small, borderpipes, and session pipes, handling all stages from reed making to fine-tuning. His expertise and dedication to the Scottish national instrument have made Stirling Bagpipes a nationwide reference point for both enthusiasts and professionals.

Located below Stirling Castle, this traditional shop carries on Scotland’s rich bagpipe heritage. Whether you’re an experienced player or simply curious about the art of piping, a visit to Stirling Bagpipes offers a deep dive into this iconic instrument’s history and craftsmanship.
