Templo de San Juan de Dios (San Juan de Dios Church), Guadalajara
Templo de San Juan de Dios is situated near the popular Plaza de los Mariachis. The initial Temple of San Juan de Dios was founded in 1606 as a shrine with several rooms that were used as a hospital. The construction of the present church building began in 1726 and was completed thanks to numerous donations. The church housed eleven golden altarpieces at the time of its completion (one of which cost three thousand dollars). During the War of Reform the convent was transformed into barracks. Inside you can see preserved sculptures of the Sacred Heart, St. Cecilia, St. Martha, St. Nicholas of Bari, St. Francisco of Padua, St. Teresa, St. Antonio, St. John Vianney and St. Eduwiges, as well as other artistic treasures.
