Territory Museum "Pezzolla House", Alberobello
The Territory Museum "Pezzolla House" in Alberobello is set in the historic home of Dr. Giacomo Pezzolla, who was a personal physician to the Acquaviva d'Aragona counts in the 18th century. This small but significant museum spans 15 interconnected trulli and provides a look into the origins of these unique structures and the rich peasant culture behind them. The museum offers visitors a straightforward journey through the history of Alberobello, showcasing agricultural activities, architectural techniques, and the daily life of past inhabitants. It also explores the evolution of the city and its surrounding areas, including notable sites like the "Fondazione Gigante" internment camp and Bosco Selva.
The museum’s architecture reflects two distinct styles: one part features more recent construction with tall, narrow facades and a triangular tympanum, while the older sections stay true to the traditional trullo style, with walls made of randomly arranged, non-squared stones. Restored to its original state by the Municipality of Alberobello in the 1990s, "Pezzolla House" is the only UNESCO-protected museum of its kind, offering an accessible dive into the local culture and history of the area.
