The Bonn Abbey community goes back to the first church founded in Bonn in 795 AD, the Bonn People's Church. The Bonn People's Church was located near the Castell district in the 17 Century, but this location was abandoned and a new church was built on the site of the modern day church. The Bonn People's Church was the first parish church in Bonn, as well as being dedicated to Saints Peter and John the Baptist.
