3 Days in Thekkady, Thekkady, India

This morning, we made the long and winding 4 hour drive from Munnar to Thekkady – Kerala’s Spice Capital. The journey through the Western Ghat mountains was very scenic with photo opportunities opening up around every bend. Thekkady is around 1,000 meters above sea level and is rich in spices – 95% of pepper in India is produced from here. Our driver told us that 13 years ago, Thekkady had just 2 hotels and a few shops. These days there are many more hotels to suit all budgets and countless shops. Surely there is NOTHING you couldn’t buy in Thekkady?

On arrival in Thekkady, we took a walking tour of the Green Park Spice Plantation whilst we waited for our room to be made up. As with all the tours on the trip, it was a private tour with an English speaking guide – not a group tour. It is such a lovely way to see the sights and something India provides at far more reasonable rates than any of the other countries I have visited which gives it a big thumbs up from me.
