I'm back from another eye-opening trip, this time to Brussels. I arrived via Eurostar from London, expecting the usual mix of grand architecture and perhaps a bit of that "boring bureaucracy" stereotype people throw around. What I discovered instead was a city that quietly captivated me in ways I didn't anticipate – from the mesmerising glow of Grand Place under Christmas lights to world-class beers that demand slow appreciation, hearty food that warms you from the inside, and honest reflections on a place with surprising layers.

I often wonder why Brussels flies under the radar compared to Paris or Amsterdam. It's compact (you can walk the historic core in a day), incredibly walkable with wide boulevards and pedestrian zones, packed with layered history from medieval guildhalls to futuristic icons, and – let's be honest – home to some of the best beer (over 1,500 varieties brewed nationwide) and food in Europe (think hearty Flemish classics meets inventive modern twists). Yet it gets dismissed as "just the EU capital" — a label that overlooks its quirky soul: comic-strip murals on every corner, surreal Art Nouveau architecture, and a laid-back vibe where locals sip lambics in cosy cafés without the tourist frenzy. ......
