The Twin Towers of Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

You’ve heard about Dubai’s many superlative achievements. But there’s one pleasant architectural aspect of Dubai which has, surprisingly, been under-marketed.

Dubai has lots of them, probably more than any other city in the world. Except maybe Istanbul, but the twin towers of Istanbul are not located in the Sultanahmet-Old City region anyway, so most tourists probably wouldn’t take notice.

In Dubai, however, it’s scattered in the main touristic areas (especially along the famous Sheikh Zayed Road), so you cannot help but notice, and then go on a photo frenzy. The awesome thing is, these twin towers are not boring squarish buildings. They are legitimately interesting structures which look like they are lifted directly from the 1980s sci-fi movies.

Emirates Towers is perhaps Dubai’s most noticeable twin tower, as you’ll definitely encounter it on your way to Burj Khalifa (which can be seen on the above picture). Standing at the height of 355m and 309m from the ground, with a unique slant instead of direct mirror image, Emirates Towers is just the world’s third tallest twin towers. ......
