10 Holloway Circus, Birmingham

10 Holloway Circus, Birmingham

10 Holloway Circus, also known as Holloway Circus Tower or Beetham Tower, is a prominent skyscraper located in the heart of Birmingham, England. Standing at 400 feet (122 meters) and encompassing a floor area of 7,000 square feet (650 square meters), it is the second tallest building in Birmingham and ranks as the 74th tallest in the United Kingdom. The tower has 39 floors and is outstripped in height only by the British Telecom Tower and The Mercian within the city.

Designed by Ian Simpson and constructed by Laing O'Rourke, the building was initially named after its developers, the Beetham Organisation. The architecture features a modern glass façade, notable for its "tiger stripes" pattern that enhances its verticality. Some stripes were replaced with aqua-colored camouflage during the furnishing of the apartments, adding a unique aesthetic touch. At night, the building is further accentuated with colored lights under its overhang.

The tower serves a mixed-use purpose: the lower 19 floors house a Radisson Blu hotel, which began operations on January 16, 2006, while the construction of the upper floors was still underway. The upper 20 floors comprise 158 residential apartments, offering panoramic views of the city.

Structurally, the building is supported by eight circular concrete columns and a central core on each floor. The upper floors are made of post-tensioned flat plates of concrete, each 9 inches (225 mm) thick.

10 Holloway Circus was recognized in the 2006 Emporis Skyscraper Awards, where it received 12 points and was ranked eighth in the top ten. This accolade highlights its architectural significance and contribution to Birmingham's skyline.
