18th Street Lounge, Washington D.C.
The Eighteenth Street Lounge has been a hub for live music, dancing, and a sense of community since 1995. In 2020, after 25 years of operation in Dupont Circle, the lounge closed its doors. However, after a two-year hiatus, the original owners decided to reopen in a new location in Shaw.
Despite the move, the establishment retained its name and now occupies a spot on 9th Street alongside other bars and restaurants in Blagden Alley. This backstreet was once highlighted by figures like Eleanor Roosevelt and New Deal reformers as a symbol of urban decay in the city. Today, it's a bustling area with trendy shops.
The new venue spans two levels and covers 5,000 square feet, about half the size of the original. Much like its predecessor, this scaled-down version features a rooftop deck, a bar on each level, and the capacity to host multiple live performances simultaneously.
