The Asheville Gallery of Art is the city’s longest-established fine arts gallery, proudly serving the community since 1988. Founded by a group of 31 visionary local artists, the gallery set the stage for Asheville’s emergence as a renowned arts destination. Housed on the ground floor of the Capital Center Building, this artist-owned and operated cooperative continues to thrive as a dynamic showcase for regional talent and artistic expression.
Today, the gallery still represents its original cooperative spirit, with 31 accomplished local artists curating and managing the space. Visitors are welcomed daily by one of the artists themselves, offering a direct and personal connection to the work on display.
