Baniyas Square, Dubai

Baniyas Square, tucked away in Dubai's Deira district, started off as a humble gathering spot by the creek, where cattle markets, water carriers, and small shops reigned supreme during the 1950s and 60s. Originally called Jamal Abdel Nasser Square after the Egyptian leader, it was later renamed Baniyas Square as the area grew and evolved. By the 1970s and 80s, Baniyas Square had cemented its place in Dubai’s commercial boom, nestled among high-rises within walking distance to the Naif Souk. In 2011, the opening of Baniyas Square Metro Station (on the Green Line) solidified the square’s status as a transportation and commerce hub.
