Bojdeuca lui Ion Creanga (Ion Creanga's House), Iasi

Ion Creangă’s House, known as Bojdeuca lui Ion Creangă, is a small cottage connected with one of Romania’s best-known storytellers. Creangă lived here from 1872 until his death in 1889, in a modest two-room house that he jokingly called a “bojdeucă,” a Moldavian word for a tiny, humble dwelling. The house also welcomed Mihai Eminescu, who stayed here during parts of the summer and autumn of 1876.

The cottage became Romania’s first memorial museum on April 15, 1918, and was later restored several times. Inside, visitors can see objects linked to Creangă’s daily life, including writing tools, books, household items, and details that recall his habits. He was known for keeping many cats, each with its own name, and the museum preserves the chimney pole with a rope said to have inspired a scene in Memories of My Childhood.

The site also includes an annex opened in 1989, with a library, documentary collection, and exhibition space. The amphitheater hosts children’s shows, while recent restoration debates show the site’s ongoing cultural importance.
