Botanical Garden, Krakow

The Botanical Garden of Jagiellonian University sits in close proximity to the heart of Kraków, just a ten-minute stroll from the Main Market Square and the Main Railway Station. Boasting a history of nearly 250 years since its establishment in 1783, it stands as Poland's most ancient botanical garden.

Encompassing 10 hectares and housing a myriad of vibrant plants, this garden offers an idyllic setting for leisurely walks amidst flowerbeds, the alpinarium, and the arboretum. Alongside pathways that wind through trees and shrubs, and a charming pond, the garden is adorned with greenhouses. Among these, the "Victoria" greenhouse takes pride of place, named after the Victoria Amazonica water lilies that thrive within its confines. Additionally, the "Jubilee" palm house and the intricate collection of tropical greenhouses provide visitors with the opportunity to marvel at approximately 50 species of palms, carnivorous plants, tropical cultivable plants, biblical plants, and Poland’s earliest assortment of sago palms. Enthusiasts of mountain flora can indulge in the diversity of plant life from the Alps, Carpathians, and Caucasus.

Dominating the expanse of the Kraków garden is the expansive arboretum, which curates a rich assembly of over 1000 species of trees and shrubs. Nestled within the exquisite Collegium Śniadeckiego palace building, a small yet charming museum showcases the oldest botanical collections of Jagiellonian University, spanning four rooms and exuding an antiquated charm. This palace building also serves as a venue for intermittent art exhibitions, while the garden itself plays host to outdoor concerts and a variety of events. Whether seeking a romantic rendezvous or a tranquil escape from the bustle, this garden offers an ideal sanctuary.
