Bulker Leuchtturm (Bulk Lighthouse), Kiel

Bulker Leuchtturm (Bulk Lighthouse), Kiel

The Bülk lighthouse is located on the easternmost tip of the north side of the Kiel Fjord, in the municipality of Strande in Schleswig-Holstein. The Bülk lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on the Kiel Fjord. It serves as a guide light for the approach to the fjord. The lighthouse is a popular tourist destination. The green sector (213°-228°) marks the cable route for the underwater high-voltage cable that runs from Bülk lighthouse to Kiel lighthouse. The cable route is also marked by two red cable beacons that stand on the beach north of Bülk lighthouse. The Bülk lighthouse has a total height of 25.60 meters. The lower platform, which is accessible to visitors, is 22 meters high. Since 1999, the belt light has consisted of a 120 V high-voltage halogen lamp with 600 watts of power. The lamp is clocked with the identifier Blz. 3 s = 0.7 + (2.3) s. The nominal range of the light is about 16 nautical miles for white light. The lighthouse is still fully functional and is remotely controlled and monitored by the traffic control center of the Baltic Sea Waterways and Shipping Authority in Travemünde. There is a picture gallery in the lighthouse. The tower is also popularly known as Hein Bülk. The viewing platform is accessible to visitors. The lantern house and roof of the Bülk lighthouse, which were dismantled on September 5, 1969, stood in Marina Wendtorf on the fishing jetty in 2011. In February 2022, it stood 50 meters south of the current Bülk lighthouse.

The Bulk Lighthouse, recognizable by its white and black exterior, is a lighthouse overlooking the Baltic Sea. The lighthouse, dating from 1807, is a popular attraction and one of the earliest lighthouses in the city.

As the oldest lighthouse on the Kiel Fjord, the Bülk lighthouse exudes a unique charm against a stunning Baltic Sea backdrop. On the lower platform at a height of 22 meters, which is accessible, you can enjoy a great view. At the foot of the lighthouse, visitors will find the popular pavilion restaurant. Here, the lighthouse team takes care of the guests' physical well-being with a panoramic sea view. Afterwards, it is worth taking a refreshing walk in the airy sea breeze. Also popular: simply park your camper van or van in the parking lot directly next to the lighthouse and let your mind wander while looking out over the Baltic Sea. The Bülk lighthouse marks the entrance to the Kiel Fjord as an orientation light and the Stoller Grund shallows with a red warning sector. The lighthouse is automated and is remotely monitored by the Travemünde traffic control center. Started by the Danes in 1862, the construction of the current lighthouse could not be completed by Prussia until 1865 because of the German-Danish War. The Bülk lighthouse has been open to the public since August 1996. ***PH***
