Cabinet des Estampes et des Dessins, Strasbourg

The Print Room (Cabinet des Estampes et des Dessins) is a museum situated in Strasbourg. Its focus lies on a municipal assortment of historical prints (estampes) and drawings (dessins), which encompass not only illustrations made with woodcuts and lithographs but also span across a timeline of five centuries ranging from the 14th to the 19th century. Artworks collected by the city since 1870 that fall within the realm of graphic art are showcased in the Musée d'art moderne et contemporain and the Tomi Ungerer Museum.

Established in 1890 by Wilhelm von Bode, during his efforts to reconstruct and restructure the city's artistic treasures, this collection holds pieces crafted by notable artists including Albrecht Dürer, Albrecht Altdorfer, Hans Baldung, Hendrik Goltzius, Antonio del Pollaiuolo, Honoré Daumier, Philip James de Loutherbourg, and the Master of the Drapery Studies. The Cabinet des Estampes et des Dessins was previously counted to house approximately 200,291 items. A significant enhancement occurred in 2019 when a substantial donation of 33 drawings and 5 engravings by artists like Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Jacques Callot, and Rembrandt was added to the collection.
