Carmen Miranda Museum, Rio de Janeiro
The Carmen Miranda Museum, situated within Flamengo Park at Parque Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, serves as a tribute to the renowned singer and actress Carmen Miranda. It has been accessible to the public since 1976, officially inaugurated on the 21st anniversary of her passing.
The establishment of this museum was a response to the desires of her fans, both locally and from around the world, who had organized numerous fan clubs. They yearned for a dedicated space to preserve the memory of this legendary figure in Brazilian popular music. Located in Rio de Janeiro, the museum boasts a collection of over 3,500 items dedicated to honoring Carmen Miranda, with approximately 200 of them on display. A significant portion of the museum's collection is available for research purposes upon request.
Among the treasures within the collection, approximately 460 items consist of garments and accessories. Visitors can marvel at Carmen's famous five-foot-tall platform shoes, a symbol of her iconic persona as the "Notable Little One." The collection features glamorous dresses, including the one from her final performance, her unique turbans, including her wedding day turban, and a variety of balangandãs, the iconic charms in Carmen's baiana style.
The museum features numerous enlarged publicity photos, some nearly life-sized, showcasing Carmen Miranda's iconic career. Smaller photos narrate the story of her life and professional journey. The exhibit showcases her 1941 Academy Awards outfit, signature fruit hats, jewelry, and accessories. It also features video documentaries, biographies, her filmography, and musical works.
