Cathedral Square, Chisinau

The Cathedral Square (also known as Cathedral Park) is a historical and cultural landmark located in the heart of Chisinau. The park was founded in the 1830s, at the same time as the construction of the Metropolitan Cathedral began. The park covers an area of 9 hectares, which is a bit smaller than the original 12 hectares.

The park suffered significant damage during the Second World War, but it was quickly renovated and became a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike. Many trees, shrubs, and flower beds were planted, creating a beautiful natural environment in the heart of the city.

The centerpiece of the park is the Metropolitan Cathedral, which along with the Belfry and the Arc de Triomphe, forms an iconic historical ensemble in the capital. The Belfry was tragically blown up by the Soviet authorities in 1962, but it was rebuilt in 1998 to reflect its original design.

The park's main area is a large open space surrounded by tree-lined paths that provide shade for visitors. The park is home to many old trees and decorative plants that are over a century old. The park is a popular venue for national and religious celebrations, and it is always bustling with activity.
