Columbus Topiary Park, Columbus
Topiary Park stands as a unique tribute to art and nature. The park's most striking feature is its topiary garden, which is a three-dimensional recreation of Georges Seurat's iconic 1884 painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. This living artwork includes 54 topiaries of people, eight boats, three dogs, and a monkey, all meticulously crafted to mimic Seurat's famous scene.
The park is named Old Deaf School Park, as it was originally part of the Ohio Institution for the Deaf and Dumb. Today, it offers visitors the chance to experience the masterpiece in person, walking through and around the life-sized figures, and even taking in a panoramic view of the entire installation from the hilltop.
Adjacent to the park is the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, whose 2015 renovation aimed to integrate the library more closely with the park. The park also features a charming gatehouse, designed in a French countryside style, which serves as the main entrance and includes a gift shop. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities here, from relaxing under the shade of the trees to attending jazz concerts.
