St. Patrick Church, Columbus

St. Patrick Church, Columbus

Saint Patrick Church is a historic Catholic parish, established in 1851, and is the second-oldest Catholic church in the City. Originally formed to serve the needs of the city’s growing Irish immigrant community, the church was named in honor of Ireland's patron saint. Architecturally, it features a Norman Gothic design with two towers, inspired by the castles of Ireland. The church’s rich history includes its role as a pro-cathedral for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus before Saint Joseph Cathedral was consecrated. Over time, the church has undergone several renovations, including the addition of stained glass windows, altars, and other artistic features.

Today, Saint Patrick's Church remains an active parish, with Dominican priests continuing their long-standing ministry since 1885. The interior is home to impressive stained glass windows and medallion frescos depicting notable saints, such as Saint Thomas Aquinas, Saint Dominic, and Saint Gianna Beretta Molla. A significant historical feature of the church is its bell, acquired in the mid-1800s, and its iconic pipe organ, which replaced the one lost in a 1935 fire. Visitors to the church can also see the Shrine of Saint Margaret of Castello, a unique and inspiring addition.
