Copacetic Rudely Elegant Jewelry Inc., Providence

Copacetic Rudely Elegant Jewelry Inc. is an independent shop that has operated since 1985. It began inside the historic Arcade and moved to its present premises in 2008, only a short distance from its original home. Its reputation has grown largely through word of mouth, with visitors seeking out handmade jewelry, unusual gifts and work by more than 100 artists, including many from Rhode Island.

Owner Donald “Don” Beohner has spent decades making and repairing jewelry. Although he no longer produces a personal line, repair work remains central to the business. He is especially interested in restoring pieces that appear impossible to fix, from fine and sterling silver jewelry to antique and costume items. Sentimental value often matters more here than the price of a replacement, particularly when a damaged object is tied to a family memory.

The displays also include artist-designed clocks, gadgets and eccentric hybrid objects, such as handbags fitted with working clock faces. In December 2025, the shop drew regional attention after two men used distraction tactics during a Square mobile payment and took about $3,500 in jewelry without paying. Beohner later explained that the transaction had been changed from a credit-card sale to a cash sale while one man diverted his attention.
