Located in the Lutzel district, the museum is housed in the former goods wagon repair works (Ausbesserungswerk) of Koblenz-Lutzel, built in 1905 as part of the freight yard and locomotive depot complex. Freight wagons continued to be repaired there until 1995; since 2001, the site has been transformed into the first satellite location of the Nuremberg DB Museum.
