Dr. Walter Kennedy House, Sarasota

Dr. Walter Kennedy House, Sarasota

Dr. Walter Kennedy House is a historic home that was built in 1925. Colonel John Hamilton Gillespie originally owned the property on which this home was built, but it was later sold to Owen Burns around 1910. The Mediterranean Revival-Style house was constructed by Harris Pearsall and Owen Burns.

The house is historically associated with its third owner, Dr. Walter C. Kennedy, who purchased the property from John Buckbee in 1936. Dr. Kennedy was an optometrist who lived in Sarasota from 1924 until his death in 1978. He was actively involved in civic affairs and was well-known for his contributions to the community.

The house is located in the historic Laurel Park neighborhood and features many stunning architectural details. Today, the Dr. Walter Kennedy House is recognized as an important historic landmark in Sarasota and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
