Fashion Museum, Santiago

Fashion Museum, Santiago

The museum of fashion (El Museo de la Moda) in Santiago is housed in the former home of the affluent Bascunan Yarur family, which was built in 1958 by Charles Bolton, Luis Prieto and Sergio Larrain. The architecture reflects Japanese influence and the museum's collection duly corresponds to the legacy of the property's owners, and has been richly donated to over the years.

Various types of fabrics and clothing are found here, categorized by age and country of origin. There are also many other artifacts and furniture on display, each with a special appeal, totaling more than ten thousand objects, making it the most comprehensive recount of the history of fashion & design in Chile. There are sketches dating back to 1798, as well as photographs, posters, vinyl records, videos and other documents relevant to the world of fashion.

Also, there is a library specialized in textile-related publications, and a cafeteria, both of which are open to the public. The museum works Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
