First Christian Reformed Church, London

First Christian Reformed Church, London

First Christian Reformed Church was established in 1949–1950 by Dutch immigrants who arrived after the Second World War. The congregation first met in private homes before becoming formally organized. It grew during postwar migration, as families sought both opportunity and continuity in religious life, while also helping newcomers adjust to a new environment.

The congregation purchased its current building in 1953, a structure originally built between 1881 and 1882 for a Baptist congregation. Designed by George Durand, the building reflects 19th-century church design, with white brick, decorative patterns, lancet windows, and polygonal towers. Inside, the sanctuary centers on the pulpit, with a wooden balcony and pipe organ. A glass atrium added in the late 1990s creates a more open entrance.

Today, the church, also known as Talbot Street Church, continues to serve both its congregation and the wider community. Alongside regular services, it hosts Bible studies, youth activities, and outreach programs that provide meals and support for those in need. These efforts show how the church continues to serve both its congregation and the wider community.
