Former Residence of Hu Xueyan, Hangzhou
Around 1872, Hu Xueyan commissioned the construction of his opulent residence on Yuan Bao Street, a grand edifice covering 7,000 square meters and requiring ten thousand grams of silver. Situated in the bustling heart of Hangzhou on Hefang Street, this lavish mansion was a testament to Hu's prosperity. Built in traditional Chinese style, it boasted pavilions, booths, bridges, and rockeries, all adorned with intricate brick, wood, and stone carvings. The courtyard was graced with high-class trees like purple sandalwood and gingko.
