West Lake, Hangzhou
West Lake is a sprawling freshwater body divided into five distinct sections by three causeways. It boasts an array of attractions, including temples, pagodas, gardens, and both natural and man-made islands. Gushan, the largest natural island, is accompanied by three artificial counterparts: Xiaoyingzhou, Huixin Pavilion, and Ruan Gongdun, strategically positioned at the heart of the lake. Leifeng Pagoda and Baochu Pagoda stand on opposite shores, creating a picturesque reflection that contributes to the scenic allure of the area.
West Lake has long inspired poets, painters, and garden designers throughout Chinese history. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, it is praised for shaping garden aesthetics not only in China but also in Japan and Korea, embodying an idealized fusion of humanity and nature.
