Gare du Palais, Quebec City

Gare du Palais, known as "Palace Station," is a transportation hub situated in Quebec City. Its name is derived from its proximity to the former site of the Palace of the Intendant of New France. This station serves as a transportation hub for both Via Rail, which is Canada's national passenger railway, and the private coach company Orléans Express. In recognition of its historical significance, it was designated as a Heritage Railway Station in the year 1992.

Opened for public use in 1916 by Canadian Pacific along with two other railway companies, it was initially referred to as Union Station. At the time, it was an illustrious building that competed favorably with similar structures worldwide. Despite its architecture being reminiscent of a castle, resembling the style of Château Frontenac, the current station boasts a modern design. It features an efficient, albeit unconventional Y-shaped platform capable of accommodating multiple trains simultaneously. Furthermore, this station has had a significant impact on the local economy by establishing a crucial connection between the port and the railway network.

Subsequently, the station's name was changed to Gare du Palais (now known as Îlot des Palais). Even today, visitors are captivated by the grand entrance hall, characterized by its vaulted ceiling, stained-glass windows, and abundant natural lighting.
