Gibbons Park, London

Gibbons Park, London

Gibbons Park is a public green space set along a wide curve of the North Thames River. It was established in the 1920s and formally presented to the city in 1925 by the daughters of Sir George Christie Gibbons, after whom the park is named. Covering about 58 acres (roughly 23–26 hectares), the park follows the natural shape of the river, with open lawns, mature trees, and gently sloping ground leading down to the water.

The park is a key point along the Thames Valley Parkway, a network of paved multi-use paths used for walking, jogging, and cycling. These paths link different parts of the river corridor and make the park a starting point for longer routes. A pedestrian bridge connects both sides of the river. Picnic shelters and open lawns support gatherings and informal recreation.

Facilities in the park reflect both its recreational role and its connection to earlier infrastructure. A heated outdoor pool and splash pad provide supervised swimming in warmer months. A nearby historic pumping station reflects early waterworks. The park is used year-round, with walking and cycling in warmer seasons and cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in winter.
