Gow Langsford Gallery, Auckland

Gow Langsford Gallery, Auckland

Gow Langsford Gallery is a commercial art gallery located in Auckland. It was founded in the year 1987 by John Gow and Gary Langsford. This gallery has been involved in representing and continues to represent several notable artists from both New Zealand and around the world. Some of these artists include Max Gimblett, Jacqueline Fahey, Paul Dibble, and Dick Frizzell.

Although Gow Langsford Gallery is sometimes linked with John Leech Gallery, which has a history dating back to the mid-19th century, it's important to note that Gow Langsford Gallery was established as a distinct venture with a different set of objectives. The gallery made its debut by opening with a group exhibition that featured artists such as Dick Frizzell, Judy Millar, Greer Twiss, and Allen Maddox.

Over the years, Gow Langsford Gallery has organized and hosted more than 500 exhibitions across New Zealand and even internationally. The gallery has actively participated in international art fairs, showcasing its artists' work at events like Art Basel Hong Kong and Sydney Contemporary.

At present, the roster of artists represented by Gow Langsford Gallery mainly consists of well-established artists from Australasia, although it has also been successful in attracting artists from Europe and America. Additionally, the gallery sponsors an annual award known as the Gow Langsford Gallery Art Prize, which is presented to an outstanding recent graduate in the field of visual arts who has demonstrated exceptional talent and resilience in their work.
