Hartman Trgovina muzikalije (musical instrument store), Ljubljana

Hauptmann House is a notable example of Vienna Secession architecture in Slovenia. The building was originally constructed in 1873 and was among the few structures in the historic centre to survive the 1895 earthquake almost completely unharmed. It was later purchased by paint merchant Adolf Hauptmann, who commissioned architect Ciril Metod Koch to renovate it in 1904.

Koch redesigned the façade and roof in the fashionable Secession style without replacing the earlier structure. The exterior is distinguished by geometric ornament, curved window frames, decorative ironwork, and colourful ceramic tiles in green, blue, and red tones. These details create a strong visual contrast with the more traditional Baroque buildings nearby.

The house illustrates how older buildings were modernised during the reconstruction period that followed the earthquake. Visitors can examine the symmetrical façade, patterned surfaces, balconies, and carefully arranged decorative details from the surrounding pedestrian area. It combines a 19th-century structure with an early 20th-century Secession exterior.
