Holy Family R.C. Church, Blackpool

Holy Family R.C. Church, Blackpool

Situated on Links Road in Blackpool’s North Shore, Holy Family Roman Catholic Church is a striking example of Collegiate Gothic architecture. Built in 1929 to mark the centenary of Catholic Emancipation, the church was uniquely funded by its devoted parish priest, Canon Vaughan-who had previously financed the Church of Saint John the Evangelist in Poulton-le-Fylde. Both projects were designed by the prominent architectural firm Pugin & Pugin.

Constructed from red brick with stone dressings and capped with a slate roof, the church blends loosely Transitional Gothic elements with distinctive decorative features. The east façade, facing the road, is especially ornate, boasting three gables with spherical triangular windows and plate tracery. Other openings are mainly lancet windows topped with trefoil heads. The west end features a bellcote and a statue positioned above the entrance, lending the building a dignified silhouette.

Part of the Diocese of Lancaster, Holy Family Church remains an active parish, closely connected to the neighboring Holy Family Catholic Primary School. Together, they foster a strong community spirit, with the church hosting regular worship, parish gatherings, and faith-based events for all ages.
