Holy Trinity Ukranian Orthodox Church, Vancouver

The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral stands proudly in Vancouver, situated on East 10th Avenue, just a stone's throw from Main Street. It was founded on May 9, 1937, becoming a spiritual cornerstone in the city. The inaugural Holy Liturgy graced its presence on July 18, 1937, hosted within the Ukrainian National Home. A year later, a dedicated fund took shape, earmarking resources for the construction of a sacred abode.

Guided by the architectural prowess of Ukrainian-American visionary Sergius Timoshenko, the church's design came to life. Notably, the sanctified cross adorning the central cupola received the blessing of Rev. Stephen Symchych on September 11, 1949.

The Easter of 1950 saw the maiden Divine Liturgy held within the still-evolving sanctuary. Over time, the edifice was meticulously completed and adorned, aligning with the sacred traditions of Orthodoxy.

In 1970, the parish began creating a two-level Ukrainian Orthodox Centre next to the church. This effort resulted in its official opening on June 17, 1973. The center includes an auditorium and dining hall for various gatherings.

In December 1977, Vancouver's City Council granted heritage status to the church, confirming its significance under local laws. In 1975, it was named Cathedral (Sobor) by Rt. Rev. Archbishop Andrew of the Ukrainian Greek-Orthodox Church of Canada, now known as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.

Within Vancouver, the Parish has gained renown for its cherished monthly tradition – the Friday Night Ukrainian Suppers, affectionately known as "Perogy Night in Vancouver." These gatherings serve as a testament to the Parish's vibrant presence and its enduring commitment to both faith and fellowship.
