Jahangir Park, Karachi

Jahangir Park is one of Karachi's oldest public parks and an important green space in the city's historic Saddar bazaar. The six-acre land was gifted to the citizens of Karachi in 1883 by the Parsi philanthropist Khan Bahadur Behramjee Jehangirjee Rajkotwala, after whom it is named, and was formally inaugurated on Nauroze in 1893 following the completion of its central fountain.

Originally known by locals as Behram Bagh, the park has remained a central landmark for over a century, providing a welcome pocket of nature amid the surrounding commercial districts near Empress Market. Historically, the park featured a central fountain, a reading room, and a famous cricket ground that hosted local clubs and major mid-20th-century political rallies. Following a period of severe neglect, a massive 2017 restoration project by the Government of Sindh completely revitalized the space. Today, the modernized park features unique family attractions, including Karachi's first outdoor dinosaur park, an aviary, an amphitheater, a public library, and reverse osmosis clean water plants.

Beyond its recreational role, Jahangir Park forms a key component of Karachi's architectural and cultural heritage. Its central location puts it within walking distance of colonial-era landmarks like the Empress Market and St. Andrew's Church. Today, it serves as a highly popular community hub, blending its deep historical legacy with modern interactive facilities for residents, office workers, and tourists alike.
