Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur
Jaigarh Fort is as a stalwart sentinel overlooking the Amer Fort and the serene Maota Lake. Constructed in 1726 by Mirza Raja Jai Singh with the purpose of safeguarding the neighboring Amer Fort and its palace complex, this imposing structure bears the name of its founder. Often referred to as the Victory Fort, Jaigarh Fort shares a rugged architectural resemblance with the nearby Amer Fort, sprawling over a substantial expanse of 3 kilometers in length and 1 kilometer in width along the north-south direction.
One of its most notable features is the formidable Jaivana Cannon, once acclaimed as the world's largest cannon on wheels, forged within the precincts of the fort. Linked by underground passages, Jaigarh Fort and Amer Fort form a cohesive complex, symbolizing the strategic prowess of their builders.
The fortifications, characterized by thick walls of red sandstone, enclose a sprawling layout adorned with a square garden at its heart. Access to upper-level structures is facilitated by sloping ramparts positioned at each corner, while courtrooms and halls with screened windows populate the palatial quarters. A central watchtower atop raised ground offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape.
