In the cultural landscape of post-independence West Jerusalem, there was a noticeable absence of dedicated venues for theater and classical music. Recognizing this need, Jewish Venezuelan steel magnate Miles Sherover and his wife Gita took the initiative to endow the city with a world-class theatrical venue. Thus, in 1958, the Sherover Theatre was conceived, eventually opening its doors in 1971 with a seating capacity of 900.

Meanwhile, Chicago entrepreneur Henry Crown had intentions to fund a football stadium in Jerusalem. However, faced with opposition from the ultra-orthodox lobby, then-mayor Teddy Kolleck persuaded Crown to redirect his funding towards expanding the Sherover Theatre. Consequently, in 1986, the Henry Crown Hall was inaugurated as an extension with impeccable orchestral acoustics and accommodating 750 seats. The complex, officially known as the Jerusalem Centre for the Performing Arts, also includes a smaller 110-seat Little Theatre and the medium-sized, 450-seat Rebecca Crown Auditorium, named after Henry's wife.

Ticket prices for performances vary depending on the show but are generally reasonable. Additionally, the main hall often hosts exhibitions showcasing contemporary Israeli artists, while the Talbiye bar, just beneath the theatre, is the go-to spot for those looking to enjoy a refined atmosphere and fine wines.
