Johanniskirche (St. John’s Church), Miltenberg
Saint John’s Church was constructed in a neo-Gothic style by architect Ludwig Hofmann, as part of the Evangelical Lutheran parish, and is formally named the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saint John. The building was dedicated in 1897, after about two years of work.
In terms of form, it is a hall church, featuring a long nave, a choir set into the western end, a north transept arm, and an octagonal tower topped by a tall pointed spire at the northwest corner where the nave and transept intersect. The organ, built in 1965 by the firm Orgelbau Vleugels, includes 18 stops, two manuals, and a pedal.
Inside, the church is enlivened by richly coloured stained-glass windows from the 1960s, illustrating scenes from both the Old and New Testaments. Two circular windows in the choir depict the Flood and Noah’s Ark, and the tablets of the Ten Commandments, while others show figures such as the prophet Elijah and scenes like the Parable of the Sower.

Miltenberg Introduction Walking Tour
Not even the small towns were safe from the wrath of the Nazis. Following the mass deportation of the Jewish population, the cobblestones of Miltenberg became dotted with brass Stolpersteine-stumbling stones-courtesy of artist Gunter Demnig.
