Kidd's Toy Museum, Portland

Kidd's Toy Museum, Portland

Kidd's Toy Museum was a private museum founded by lifelong collector Frank Kidd, who began acquiring antique toys after establishing his automotive parts business. Before closing permanently in June 2023, the museum displayed more than 20,000 objects, although they represented only part of Kidd's much larger collection. The nonprofit museum offered free admission, supported by voluntary donations.

The collection focused primarily on toys produced between 1869 and 1939, with an emphasis on cast-iron and tin vehicular toys. Displays included model vehicles and a notable collection of antique mechanical cast-iron banks. Early Disney memorabilia, including vintage Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit toys, reflected the changing world of children's entertainment during the early twentieth century.

The museum also displayed teddy bears, dolls, holiday decorations, and other items from Frank Kidd's wife's personal collection. Handwritten labels and densely packed displays reflected decades of dedicated collecting. Although the museum is now closed, it is remembered for preserving a remarkable collection of antique toys and mechanical objects.
