Kuğulu Park, Nicosia

Kuğulu Park, Nicosia

Kugulu Park, located in Northern Nicosia, is one of the city’s most cherished public spaces. Established nearly 40 years ago within the old moat near the Kyrenia Gate, this peaceful park has become a central gathering place for locals and visitors alike. It lies just west of the historical gate and next to the Residence of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which occupies the Cephane (Quirini) Bastion.

The name "Kugulu," meaning "with swans" in Turkish, harks back to the park’s original pool that housed live swans-a gentle touch that contributed to its tranquil reputation. Over the years, the park has seen several renovations, the most significant being in 1993, with further upgrades enhancing its facilities while preserving its calming charm.

Today, Kugulu Park serves not only as a green recreational area but also as a vibrant cultural space. It hosts concerts, parades, meetings, and social events, and includes a children's playground, making it a versatile venue for all age groups. Shaded pathways, open green lawns, and the lingering memory of swans continue to define the park as a vital oasis amid the urban landscape of Nicosia.
