Langemunt, Ghent

Langemunt, Ghent

Langemunt is a lengthy pedestrianized shopping street in the Ghent City Center. It is equally popular with visitors and locals. It is located south of Friday Market and north of Korenmarkt (Wheat Market). Medium priced retail shops abound, selling clothing, fashion goods and accessories. Food stores and cafes are near to the Wheat Market.

The shops and stores are mostly housed in buildings with late medieval facades. The street is anchored at one end by a huge, very busy Primark Store. At the other end by the Friday Market Square is the Big Cannon Square and the super large gun which is not for sale. Everything else seems to be available.

The street is not the tidiest but the shoppers are not discouraged. Some visitors claim it is a great place to spend a few hours shopping. Others may be fatigued by the occasional manic atmosphere of the big stores. Still, there are plenty of more congenial shops and cafes to sit and rest those tired feet. And hey, no cars!
