Lena's House, Mykonos

Lena's House, Mykonos

Lena’s House is a small folk museum housed in a 19th-century Mykonian townhouse, offering a detailed look at traditional island life. Once part of a larger estate owned by war hero Captain Nikolaos Sourmelis, the house has been carefully restored and preserved. Today, it bears the name of its last private owner, Lena Skrivanou, and stands as a tribute to Mykonos’s domestic past, housed within a classic Cycladic structure with a whitewashed façade, small courtyards, and a traditional pigeon house.

Visitors can step into a world of richly decorated interiors featuring a living room with an arched ceiling, a front porch, two bedrooms, and a kitchen.

Antique Viennese furniture, carved wood pieces, and hand-painted crockery give shape to the aesthetic of the time, while the decorative plates, large mirrors, tapestries, and French engravings speak to the home’s more cosmopolitan touches. Rooms are arranged as they would have been in the 19th century, creating the feeling of a lived-in home frozen in time.

A particular highlight is the display of traditional Mykonian clothing, including two reconstructed outfits inspired by 17th- and 18th-century travelers’ lithographs, as well as a symbolic tribute to the war heroine Manto Mavrogenous.

The museum also showcases tools and household items related to agriculture and fishing, linking domestic life to the island’s rural economy.

For visitors interested in cultural history, Lena’s House offers a quiet, immersive glimpse into how Mykonians once lived, worked, and celebrated.
