Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Vilnius

The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) is a prestigious state-supported conservatory located in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Academy was founded in 1919 as a music school by composer Juozas Naujalis in Kaunas, which was later reorganised into the Kaunas Conservatory in 1933. In 1949, the Kaunas Conservatory and the Vilnius Conservatory were merged into the Lithuanian State Conservatory. The Academy's students participate in national and international orchestras, concerts, performances, competitions, and festivals. The Academy also sponsors competitions and international events, including the International Jascha Heifetz Violin Competition, the International Competition for Singers and Pianists-Accompanists, and the International Competition of Piano Duos, among others.

Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition, international accordion and folk music festivals, international conferences for ethnomusicologists, and numerous master classes. Additionally, the Academy co-sponsors the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, and has signed bilateral or multilateral agreements with partner institutions including the Belarusian State Academy of Music, Moscow's Tchaikovsky Conservatory and its Slavic Traditional Music School, the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, and the University of Kansas.
