Miniatures Museum of Taiwan, Taipei

Miniatures Museum of Taiwan, Taipei (must see)

The Miniatures Museum of Taiwan stands as Asia's pioneer institution dedicated to the collection of miniature artworks. Established on March 28, 1997, by Mr. Lin Wen-ren and his spouse, this museum is situated in the Zhongshan District of Taipei.

Mr. Lin and his wife's fascination with miniature art began during their business travels when they indulged their children with small houses and toy cars. It was during a trip to The Netherlands that they stumbled upon the captivating world of miniature art, igniting their passion. They commenced acquiring miniature accessories, and furniture, and assembling tiny houses. Simultaneously, they actively participated in auctions and became members of international miniature art associations. Their vision for the museum took shape in 1993.

The museum's emblem draws inspiration from "Rose Mansion," a celebrated collection within its walls. This particular piece, designated one of the ten most significant miniature art creations in America over a quarter-century, took Dr. Reginald Twigg nearly four years to complete. His painstaking research and dedication resurrected the once-famous architectural wonder, which now graces the museum's exhibitions.

Taiwan's museum holds the distinction of being the first to specialize in contemporary miniatures, showcasing two primary formats: "doll house" and room boxes with cut-away views. It ranks second globally, boasting a collection of nearly 200 items. Mr. Lin Wen-Ren and his wife personally sourced each item during their travels in Europe and the United States.

The museum offers diverse exhibitions on miniature architectural marvels, encompassing English architecture and Roman castles. Visitors can also marvel at miniature renditions of beloved fairy tales such as Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, and Jack and the Beanstalk. Furthermore, the museum proudly displays the world's smallest working television, miniature cakes, and intricate cubed worlds.
