Mohammed Sultan Road Nightlife, Singapore

Mohamed Sultan Road, located within the River Valley Planning Area of Singapore, is a significant street in the region. To its south, it intersects with Saiboo Street and Martin Road. This thoroughfare acquired its official name back in 1898, a period when the northern bank of the Singapore River was witnessing an influx of activity, stemming from the bustling harbor.

During the 1980s, Mohamed Sultan Road was characterized by a landscape dominated by factories, shops, and warehouses. These establishments played a crucial role in storing and distributing goods from ships arriving at Singapore Harbor. Over time, these historical structures were preserved, and a variety of businesses have taken residence in the refurbished buildings.

In 1991, Peter Wong established a modest but now-defunct watering hole named Front Page. Soon after, Simon Lim launched Wong San's, and this marked the beginning of a trend where bars and clubs began to emerge in the area at a rapid pace.

The area experienced a significant boom around the year 2000, with the introduction of popular venues like Madam Wong, Sugar, Eden, Nox, Lush, and Amoeba. Enthusiastic partygoers flocked to these clubs, enticed by their progressive music and upscale decor. Mohamed Sultan Road boasted a total of 31 clubs during this period, attracting a high volume of foot traffic. Consequently, some of these clubs, including Madam Wong, Wong San's, and Amoeba, were often as crowded as the Central Expressway during its peak hours. Today, Eastside and The Siam Supperclub continue to thrive in the area.
